Travel photography WORKSHOP

3-7 OF JULY

35.07.04.12.D.jpg

“There are two states we live in. One exists within us, the other outside us. Great photography comes with  the melding of those two states. What we see and when we see it is directly connected to our interior state, is driven by our personal history and the emotional reaction to a subject, regardless of what that subject is”.

There’s nothing better than a typical and authentic Cycladic island for a photography and reportage workshop. Imagine losing yourself on small winding roads leading you to the Aegean sea, or becoming familiar to locals, who welcome you into their homes, or simply wander around and discover unique places such as the old Monastery of Panachrantos with its legendary cookbook author Abbot (85 years old), or exploring the small kiosk in the ancient area of Paleopoli, situated under an immense plane tree, savouring the best lemon blossom jam of the island.

Andros is just like this, it surprises you all the time and creates a continuous form of inspiration. Join us for 4 full days with William Abranowicz and Allegra Pomilio. Every level is welcome, from photography enthusiasts to professionals. A small group of participants will allow each one of them to immerse themselves as much as possible. We will visit beautiful villages, calm hamlets, and wonderfully isolated beaches. There will be endless possibilities to photograph awe-inspiring sceneries of an untouched Greek paradise. William will guide you and support you through this journey, from the fundamental steps of composition and technique to the development of connected, related, and well-executed image. Develop your skills, relax and explore the beautiful island of Andros in the luxurious simplicity and comfort of Mèlisses.

His newest monograph is the bestseller, American Originals published by Vendome.

Allegra Pomilio our culinary host has been working in the field for many years. She assisted and spent time in Mimi Thorisson’s kitchen, in the heart of the French countryside. She spent two years honing her skills, studying at the Alain Ducasse Academy, as well as attending many prestigious Italian chef’s classes. Her photography and visual art background studies combined with her passion for food found perfect balance in Andros. Greece is her second home and Mèlisses is her continuous source of inspiration, gathering like minded people together to discover the wonders of the island, each time, under a different perspective.

AcCommodation:

At Mèlisses, everything is aimed to endorse the local flora and fauna; the house is located in the exclusive and majestic bay of Paleopoli. There, underwater, you can still see the old city, once the main harbour of Andros. The bay is opposite the extraordinary scenery of Ghiaros’ island, which is still today considered legendary and protected for its marine wildlife.

The property is completely isolated with its private access to the sea. All around the house there is quietness and peace. The property has been realised by the best team of landscape designers and architects, completely respecting the surroundings by using local plants and rough stones, creating a continuous harmony with the environment. Mèlisses is surrounded by crystal waters and countryside, where wild figs and grapes grow uninhibited, together with plenty of fruit trees and its own vegetable garden.

Not to mention the elegantly thought interior design, a mixture of Hellenic antique furniture combined with a hint of Italian extravaganza. The outdoor area is designed to seduce all guests thanks to its breathtaking sea view. Enjoy a good swim in the crystal waters of the sea or in one of its natural sea water pools while relaxing under the pergola shade, pampered by the Aegean breeze.

This is Mèlisses.
